The name Go! is a little odd for a cat food brand, but it sums up the brand’s goal with their products – to give your cat the energy and nutrition he needs to stay on the go. Technically called Go! Solutions, this brand falls under the Petcurean umbrella and it is a line of products formulated to address certain needs including coat issues, food allergies, and more.

How We Review Cat Food Brands

Your cat deserves the highest quality diet you can give him. After all, the quality of his diet is directly linked to his health and wellness. If your cat doesn’t get the nutrients he needs, his body may not function properly, and he could develop a nutritional deficiency.

When we review cat food, we keep your cat’s nutritional needs in mind. We look for products designed for your cat’s high protein requirements, made with high-quality, natural ingredients. We never recommend a product that doesn’t list a quality source of animal protein as the first ingredient.

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means their bodies are designed for animal ingredients, not plants. We don’t recommend cat foods that contain high concentrations of carbohydrates, especially those with limited nutritional value like corn, wheat, and soy.

Here are some of the things we look for in a good cat food brand:

  • High-quality animal protein as the first ingredient
  • Rich in healthy animal fats (ex: chicken fat or salmon oil)
  • Few to no carbohydrate ingredients (especially within the top 5)
  • Limited number of main ingredients plus supplements
  • No low-quality fillers, grains, or by-products

In addition to making sure any cat food brand we recommend is made with high-quality ingredients, we evaluate several other factors as well.

We prefer brands that offer a wide variety of recipes and those that provide plenty of information about their ingredients and products. We also consider pricing and recalls as well as the availability of the brand as a whole.

Overview of the Go! Brand

The Petcurean brand is an independent company driven by a single goal: to provide pets with food that’s made with the same love and care you put into the meals you prepare for your own family.

Petcurean is headquartered in Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada. This company offers what they call “the Petcurean difference” which is simply a philosophy that puts pets first in every decision they make. Petcurean offers four different brands including Go! Solutions, Gather, Now (Fresh), and Summit.

The Go! Solutions line of cat food from Petcurean is designed to address specific issues such as food allergies, skin problems, or a picky eating habit. Available in both wet food and dry food forms, this product line is nutritionist-formulated and made from high-quality, natural ingredients. It’s designed to:

“Support pets who can benefit from healthy skin, a shiny coat, and a new attitude; and for cats who just can’t get enough of those delicious, drool-worthy animal proteins.”

Every recipe from Go! Solutions is nutritionally completed and balanced, made with no growth hormones, by-products, or artificial preservatives. Each recipe starts with a premium source of animal protein and the majority of the recipes are grain-free.

What Kind of Cat Food Products Do They Offer?

Petcurean has several different brands under their umbrella including the Go! Solutions line of specially designed wet and dry food products. This product line is broken into categories with a handful of products in each formulated to address a certain health or dietary issue.

Product Recall History

Petcurean takes their job seriously and makes sure all of their ingredients are responsibly sourced. Though they don’t use all human-grade ingredients, their ingredients are sourced from animals passed fit for consumption by the CFIA.

This is simply because the products are not made in a human food facility. Petcurean does, however, adhere to the highest standards for quality and safety.

In terms of product recalls, Petcurean only has one in its history but it was significant. In 2003, they voluntarily recalled all Go! pet foods from a manufacturer in Texas.

The recall was issued after Petcurean received word that the products had potentially made 13 dogs and cats ill. After recalling the products, they completed additional testing and didn’t find any evidence of an issue.

This Skin + Coat Care Grain-Free Chicken Recipe is formulated for cats with skin and coat issues, or simply for parents looking to support their cat’s skin and coat. It is packed with real animal protein, antioxidants, and omega fatty acids with essential vitamins and minerals as well.

The first ingredient in this recipe is chicken meal followed by deboned chicken. Chicken meal is simply fresh chicken that has been cooked prior to being added to the mixture, so it doesn’t have water weight in it – this means it is a highly concentrated source of protein. In addition to these proteins, you’ll also find salmon meal and whole dried egg later on the list.

Though this recipe is definitely high in protein, it also contains a significant number of carbohydrate ingredients including whole brown rice, white rice, and oatmeal. The estimated carb content of the formula is about 29% which is fairly high for cats.

Aside from the high carb content, however, this seems to be a good recipe. We don’t see any red flag ingredients and there are natural sources for key nutrients in addition to supplements.

Cats with food allergies and sensitivities often do well on a simple diet made with a limited number of ingredients. This Limited Ingredient Duck Grain-Free Dry Cat Food provides just that.

The first ingredient is fresh duck, followed by duck meal and whole dried egg. The recipe list doesn’t state whether the eggs come from ducks or chickens, but it is possible this recipe is also a single-source protein formula which is very beneficial for cats with food allergies.

Though the recipe is made with a limited number of ingredients, there are a significant number of carbohydrates like peas, pea flour, tapioca, lentils, and chickpeas. The estimated carb content of the formula is actually higher than the previous recipe, about 33%.

This formula doesn’t contain any red flag ingredients, but it does make heavy use of synthetic supplements to ensure complete and balanced nutrition.

This Fit + Free canned food is nutritionally balanced and formulated to give your cat the preventive nutrition he needs to stay fit and healthy. It’s packed with antioxidants and omega fatty acids plus essential vitamins, minerals, and added taurine.

The first ingredient in this recipe is fresh chicken followed by fresh turkey. Chicken broth provides moisture and additional flavor while supplemental protein comes in the form of chicken and turkey livers, duck, salmon, and dried egg. The only carbohydrate inclusions are flaxseed and an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables.

The estimated carb content of this formula is only about 1%. The majority of the nutrition seems to come from natural sources, though there are some supplements to ensure proper balance. Overall, we are very pleased with this recipe.

While the previous two recipes are sold in cans, this Carnivore formula is sold in small boxes. A protein-packed recipe, this cat food is made with a trio of proteins: chicken, turkey, and duck.

Aside from the fresh poultry, broths, and dried egg whites, the only other major ingredients in this recipe are tapioca, flaxseed, and cassia and guar gums. Again, there is some controversy on the use of gums in cat food but there are definitely worse options out there.

Overall, this recipe seems to be rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. The supplement list is a little shorter as well which suggest more of the nutrition comes from natural sources.

What Do Customers Think of Go! Cat Food?

Because Go! Solutions is a Canadian brand, it isn’t as popular as others you may be familiar with. It is, however, sold on Chewy so we were able to view some customer reviews. Most products had fewer than 50 customer reviews, though some of the dry foods were more popular.

In terms of customer response, the products that had ratings were all 4 stars or higher, on average. One of their highest-rated products, the chicken, turkey, and duck recipe dry food, was very well received. Many customers found that it helps reduce vomiting and their cats loved it.

How Much Does Go! Cat Food Cost?

When it comes to shopping for cat food, price is definitely something to consider. Cheap cat food is rarely good and good cat food is rarely cheap.

In terms of pricing, Go! Solutions cat food is a little bit expensive. The two dry food recipes we reviewed were both priced over $3.50 per pound. The wet foods were more affordable but still on the higher end of the pricing scale, between $0.40 and $0.45 per ounce.

To give you a better idea how Go! stacks up against other cat food brands, here is a quick chart to show you some average prices:

Where Can You Buy Go! Cat Food?

As a Canadian pet food company, you can’t expect to find Petcurean products like Go! Solutions cat food in every pet store. Generally speaking, this brand can be found in independent and specialty pet food stores in the United States and Canada.

You won’t find it in big chains like Petco and PetSmart. If you’re shopping online, you can find Go! Solutions easily on Chewy and Amazon. You can also purchase from authorized online retailers.

Our Final Thoughts: Is Go! a Good Brand?

Overall, we have no major complaints with the Go! Solutions brand – it seems like a solid, high-quality option for cats.

We appreciate the use of real animal proteins as the first ingredient in every recipe and we like that there’s such a variety of different formulas. Some of the dry foods were a little higher in carbohydrate content than we’d like, but that is fairly common. The wet foods were all low in carbs.

If you’re looking for a cat food brand that offers a variety of choices, we recommend Go! Solutions. Most of their dry foods come in canned food form as well, so you can offer your cat a mixed diet to boost his protein and moisture intake, if you want to.
