As a cat owner, you’re used to dealing with cat litter. You know how expensive it can be, but you’ve probably learned it’s worth paying a little more for a good product.

It simply isn’t worth saving a few cents to spend an hour scraping and scrubbing the litter box or dealing with dust and tracking.

The first thing that makes Kitty Poo Club so great is that they send you a new litter box each and every month.

Their litter boxes are made from recyclable materials, so you simply recycle your old box and start fresh.

Kitty Poo Club wants to make a cat owner’s life easier.

Not only do they take the hassle out of cleaning and maintaining the litter box, but they offer an assortment of accessories and high-quality food and treats you can add to your monthly order.

Kitty Poo Club
Kitty Poo Club offered three litter formulas at the time of testing but is releasing an organic soy formula soon.

Kitty Poo Club – My Experience

To test Kitty Poo Club, I visited the website and started a new subscription.

I decided to try all three formulas available at the time, ordering a box with each type of litter. Kitty Poo Club made it easy to customize my order and helped me through the process by asking how many cats I had. I also had the option to add accessories and other items to my order.

My order shipped quickly and arrived in a standard cardboard box with all three disposable litter boxes tucked neatly inside. It was a little heavy, but not too difficult to manage.

Kitty Poo Club
Kitty Poo Club litter boxes are made from recyclable materials and are lightweight and easy to assemble.

Each Kitty Poo Club litter box is packaged flat in two parts: the lid and the body. To assemble the litter box, you simply remove the lid and pop up the sides of the box then fit the body into the lid.

Both the litter box and the lid are lined with eco-friendly waterproof materials to prevent leaks.

The litter box also comes with two plastic strips you can slide onto the unfolded edges to keep them upright. If your cat likes a little more privacy, you can purchase a cardboard dome to place on top.

Before testing the litter boxes out, I opened all three bags of litter to see how they compared.

The fine-grain silica crystal litter was very lightweight and sand-like in texture. The regular silica litter had much larger granules and the bag felt a little heavier.

The bag of clay litter was the heaviest of all and we found the granules to vary in size but were smaller than the larger silica granules overall.

What Did My Cats Think of Kitty Poo Club?

My cats are used to nontraditional litters like silica, so I didn’t bother going through the transition process Kitty Poo Club outlines on their website. They tend to prefer using one box for solid waste and another for liquid, so I set up all three boxes side-by-side.

All three of my cats are fairly small, barely over 10 pounds, so the Kitty Poo Club litter boxes were perfectly sized. The website says they are rated for cats up to 25 pounds, but I can see how very large cats might find the box a little cozy.

My cats sniffed around a bit and didn’t find anything alarming, so I went about my day to give them a chance to start using the boxes on their own.

Over the next few days, as expected, my cats started using the fine-grain silica litter box for urine but definitely preferred the clay litter box for solid waste. The silica litter absorbed liquid quickly and I simply had to stir it once or twice a day to redistribute the used litter.

The clay litter performed as expected, like any other clay litter. It clumped fairly well and was easy to scoop, though I did notice it sticking to the sides of the box a little when one of the cats peed a little too close to the edge. It loosened easily, however, so scooping wasn’t an issue.

How Did Kitty Poo Club Hold Up?

One thing I noticed while browsing the Kitty Poo Club website is that they made it pretty clear the litter boxes were designed for a single cat. As the owner of three cats, I was a little worried.

Over the course of a few weeks, the Kitty Poo Club litter boxes held up pretty well. I should make a note, however, to say that I didn’t remove my other litter boxes during the testing period. I still have a couple others around the house, so the Kitty Poo Club boxes weren’t being used exclusively.

There were no surprises with the clay litter. The box didn’t end up lasting more than 2 weeks, but that isn’t surprising given it was being used by three cats instead of one.

The silica cat litter lasted longer, but it was primarily being used for urine. It did develop a yellow tinge after a week or so and the urine odor started to linger a bit by the end of week 2.

If I’d been using the box exclusively, I probably would have had to throw it away sooner, given the three cats.

Overall, I was pleased with Kitty Poo Club litter, but I didn’t notice anything particularly special about it. I did, however, really enjoy the convenience of the recyclable boxes.

When I was finished testing the litter, it was easy to cancel my subscription simply by signing into my account. I played around with the account options as well and found everything easy to use.

What Else Do You Want to Know?

How Much Does Kitty Poo Club Cost?

If you’re buying the complete litter box set, you’ll pay $21.99 each. When you order 3 boxes or more, however, you may receive an additional discount.

You can purchase separate litter boxes for $11.99 and single bags of litter for $17.99 (or a 4-pack for $64.99).

How Do You Recycle The Litter Box When You’re Done?

When you’re ready to change your litter box, simply discard the litter in the trash like you normally would and recycle the box. The box itself is made from 100% recycled cardboard.

What’s The Deal With The Organic Soy Litter?

Though not available yet by the time of this review, Kitty Poo Club states that their organic soy litter is 100% natural and biodegradable.

We couldn’t find out much about it, but the FAQ section notes that “daily maintenance of the litter box is required to remove urine clumps and solid waste.”

Does Each Box Really Last 30 Days?

Both the litter box and the litter is designed to last a full month for a single cat. That being said, every cat is different, so your experience might differ based on your cat’s size and usage.

Daily maintenance is recommended to remove solids and to stir the litter (for silica litter) which will help with evaporation and odor control.

If you find that the litter box doesn’t last a full month, you can change your account to receive a delivery every 3 weeks.

How Does The Litter Handle Odor?

The silica litter absorbs liquid and dries over time, allowing you to reuse it without scooping. Solids should be scooped daily, on the other hand, and the clay litter acts like a normal clumping litter.

Kitty Poo Club states their litters are designed to eliminate urine odor but recommends scooping solids daily to avoid any buildup of “poo odor.”

Is The Litter Dangerous If My Cat Accidentally Ingests It?

Most cats don’t eat litter, but there’s always the possibility of accidental ingestion if the litter sticks to your cat’s feet and he starts grooming. All Kitty Poo Club litters are derived from natural materials.

They are 100% chemical-free and non-toxic to both humans and animals. Your cat won’t be harmed if he ingests a small amount of litter but ingesting a large quantity should be addressed with your vet.

The litter should pass harmlessly through his system, but it doesn’t hurt to be careful.

How Many Boxes Do You Need In A Multi-Cat Household?

Kitty Poo Club recommends starting out with one box per cat. When using their ordering tool, Kitty Poo Club will ask you how many cats you have and recommend that number of boxes.

Generally speaking, we recommend an additional box for each multi-cat household. It never hurts to have an extra box and you probably won’t have to replace it every month.

I notice that you say nothing about the effects of disposal. It takes silicon 500 years to do so. It’s unacceptable to put all of that waste and fecal matter into landfill sites.

    • Kate Barrington

Unfortunately, both clay-based litter and silica cat litter have similar issues in that way. One of the benefits of silica litter over clay specifically is that it is so absorbent that many households use less of it. It's still the job of every cat owner to make a responsible choice for their cat and for the environment. Thanks for pointing out the issue here!

can you tell me again about the three colors to watch for in their urine clumps? My cat is acting sick and it would help if we know what to look.

    • Kate Barrington

Hi Joe, are you asking about Pretty Litter or Kitty Poo Club litter? Pretty Litter is the one that changes color according to your cat's urine pH, but Kitty Poo Club does not. For Pretty Litter, you'd want to look for changes to blue, green, or red. If your cat is acting sick, we recommend taking note of his symptoms and talking to your vet. Hope he feels better soon!

After using your guys's product my cat started having seizures. This is the only thing that we had changed in are cat lives. So we end up taking and went back to the regular cat box. Our cat literally had one seizure after the fact and never had one since. I'm just curious has anybody else had this problem with their cats
